We stood in the driveway, looking up at the indigo sky with its sprinkle of stars, and I pointed out Orion’s bow to him.  The atmosphere was clear enough that the feather-fine dusting of the universe spread out above our heads in a startling web of glowing detail.

For long moments we looked up in silence, our breath frosting the air over our heads, and we were the only two creatures in the crystalline world.
